In Bohinj and its surrounding villages you can find three wonderful fishing areas, which are all managed by the Fishing Family Bohinj. The first fishing area is Bohinj. This area includes Lake Bohinj, from the bridge by St. John’s church all the way up to Ukanc. The most common fish in Lake Bled is the arctic char, but the autochthonous lake trout, tusk and chub also live here. It is permitted to fish from the coast and a boat with one fishing set. Permitted types of fishing include bank fishing and different types of fly fishing. You are allowed to fish with one fishing rod and one artificial bait or dead lure. The Lake Bohinj fishing area is entirely managed by the Fishing Family Bohinj.
Fishing season is from the 1st of March to the 14th of November.
The second fishing area – Sava Bohinjka – This area is also managed by the Fishing Family Bohinj. The area extends from the bridge by the lake to the road bridge before Bohinjska Bistrica. The fishing area which is managed by the Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia is located from the above mentioned bridge to the dam in Soteska. Fly fishing is the only type of fishing permitted in Sava Bohinjka. You can choose between “catch and keep” and “catch and release” fly fishing. You can catch quite a few different types of fish in this river such as lake trout, Danube salmon, chub, grayling and rainbow fish.
Fishing season is from the 1st of March to the 14th of November.
The Fishing Family Bohinj also controls the third fishing area – Mostnica. Mostnica is a stream which originates in the gable of the alpine valley Voje. It is most known for its troughs, which the clean water has hollowed out on its way to the valley. This fishing area extends from the dam in Stara Fužina to where the Mostnica stream runs into Sava Bohinjka. A distinguishing feature of this fishing area is that only five fishermen at the most, are allowed to fish here per day. Permitted fishing types are fly fishing and “catch and release”.
Fishing season is from the 1st of June to the 14th of November, which is different from, the other two areas, where the season starts on the 1st of March.
