SKIING

Alpine skiing

The Resje bed and breakfast is only 8 km away from the ski slope Soriška planina, which is also the nearest one in the Bohinj valley. You can find 3 other ski slopes in the immediate surroundings – Vogel, Pokljuka and Senožeče. Soriška planina is a smaller, but interesting ski slope, and is found on the altitude between 1287 m and 1550 m above sea level. If the weather is nice you can get a beautiful view of the Julian Alps. The ski slopes are meant for beginners as well as recreational skiers and competitors, which will have plenty to do on the giant slalom slope. Everybody is welcome to measure their speed on the specialized speed skiing slope. The most numerous visitors are families, but the mountain is also known for its competitive polygon. The ski slope has a slalom, giant slalom and downhill slope. Snowboarders, sledders and cross country skiing enthusiasts are also welcome.

Vogel is one of the rare skiing slopes where you can ski on natural snow up until mid-April. Because it is an essential part of the mountain barrier above the Adriatic Sea, it get far more snow than other places within the Alps with the same altitude. The high mountain ambience and extraordinary views of the surroundings – the ski slopes is located directly in the national park and above Lake Bohinj – give Vogel a special kind of magic. Plenty of sun, unbelievable panoramas, beautiful and well-kept ski slopes are all more than perfect for those, who enjoy skiing the most. Masters of skiing will also be happy to hear, that there are also plenty of options for skiing out of the standardly marked slopes, in cases of good conditions and weather.

The Bohinj mountains offer excellent opportunities for ski touring as well. The season usually lasts from December up until May, if the snow conditions are good. The most famous touring trail, Rodica, known for its beauty, is in the lower Bohinj mountains. Komna, a skier’s paradise, is well known both at home and around the world. The most well-known and longest ski touring trail in the entire Julian Alps is the trail from Kanjavec to Stara Fužina, which has a good 2000 m of altitude difference and measures around 15 km in length. A very interesting starting point for ski touring near Bohinj is also Pokljuka.

Cross-country skiing

The best terrains for cross-country skiing are on Dobrava, between Bohinjska Bistrica and Ribičev Laz. In the winter time, you can also find up kept cross-country skiing trails on Soriška Planina, Vogel and Pokljuka, where the trails lead through quiet forests and over extensive high mountain pastures. The biathlon centre on Pokljuka, annually organizes world cup competitions, on Rudno polje. When snow falls in the valleys, there are also plenty of cross-country skiing trails available close to tourist locations. A lot of them lead over picturesque meadows or fairy tale like white forests and are free of charge.

Ice skating on frozen Lake Bohinj

Ice skating is, of course, the most exciting and beautiful when done on Lake Bohinj. Unfortunately the lake does not freeze every year, as there not always optimal conditions available. Ice skating and walking on the frozen lake is at your own risk. We recommend the utmost carefulness.
